Constantine Rising
Belief in the afterlife may comfort some, but such believers would do well to heed the cautionary tale presented in Constantine. The series introduced television viewers to the eponymous abrasive urban mage, his unusual band of friends and their struggle against a rising tide of afterworldly evil.
We are introduced to John Constantine while his is still reeling from a professional setback, and personal loss. He has little time for introspection, as he soon discovers that the forces of evil are gaining power, and his unique experience and skills are needed in defense of the mortal world. He is aided in this divine mission by a few exceptional mortals, and a reluctantly helpful angel.
A few small liberties were taken with the characters — the oddest of which involves accidental immortality — but the series hews quite closely to the Hellblazer comics overall. As the first shortened season raised more than one disturbing question, it is our sincere hope that John Constantine continues to fight for our souls, and for continued airtime.
