Evocative Fantasy Portraits

Julie Dillon

A young girl with a book peers up at an old bearded man. A woman carries a woven basket. A bald woman is suffused with a golden glow. A woman in a long blue robe writes upon an endless scroll.

There’s an uneasy truce between ecstasy and melancholy at Julie Dillon’s DayDreamer. The two factions are populated by innocent adventurers encountering great and mysterious energies, and world-weary souls weighed down by evil and ignorance. Standing between these opposing elements are solemn bearers of eternal wisdom, who seek to moderate both the chaotic energy of youth, and the entropic stagnation of the universe.

More importantly, nearly every piece displayed on Julie’s site evokes a powerful emotional response, as well as the technical appreciation of her extensive illustration skills. It’s just a wonder how one artist can evoke so many conflicting sensations.
