Carnivale Wraps Second Season

Nick Stahl as Ben Hawkins.
Clancy Brown as Brother Justin Crowe
Claire DuVall as Sophie.

We rented the first Carnivale DVD a little more than a month ago, after hearing some good buzz about HBO’s latest quirky offering. We were quickly hooked. The desperation of the 30’s dust bowl and the nomadic life of the carny weave a complex backdrop to personal stories of damnation and salvation.

Some have complained about the show’s languid pace, but after having just watched theentire first season within a month, it’s easy to see the steady, sinister collision of Ben’s and Brother Justin’s collective destinies.

Although the second season has just finished its broadcast run, we’ve only seen a few episodes. Once we catch up, I’m sure we’ll join the in chorus of voices clamoring for Carnivale‘s renewal, which has not yet been announced.
