Enchanting Elves

A cartoony elf woman with short white hair and a red top.

Elves, as the de facto emissaries of fairy folk, have undergone almost constant artistic reinterpretation over the centuries. Thanks to the inspired efforts of Sarah Ann Davies, these gentle souls are are expertly represented in the twenty first century.

Through Ms. Davies’ eyes, we see beautiful elves as elaborately coiffed, art nouveau royalty, still connected to nature in subtle yet important ways. Their luxurious bodies both at ease in any setting, yet mildly self-conscious… cautiously aware of their intoxicating effects on mortals.

Aside from a forest full of fey, accidental angels, jeweled Indian princesses and personal portraits are also to be found on her art blog. In fact Sarah Ann seems to have gone completely elf-free this year. Hopefully she’ll soon return to her mythological roots, yet even her seemingly-mundane works have a hint of fantasy shining just beneath the surface.
