The Mobile Deceased Invade in Shaun of the Dead

Nearly all of my favorite movies start off in the real world, then make a series of sudden quick turns that lead to confusion, mayhem, and heroism. The new UK film Shaun of the Dead is one of those movies.

In this instant classic, an unmotivated slacker with a dead-end job has to win back his woman, and survive endless waves of the undead. Unlike many movies that aspire to be a horror comedy, SotD really does serve up plenty of laughs and frights, while managing to work in a little social commentary to boot.

Be warned: It will be much easier for the action junkies to endure Shaun’s woman-troubles than it will be for those with delicate sensibilities to stomach the suspense and carnage. Shaun of the Dead is a limb-rending, flesh-eating, zombie-smashing romp that every adult should enjoy… a few just might have to close their eyes from time to time.
