Avatar Soars Above Normal Nick Fare

The Last Airbender
Don’t get me wrong: with young kids in the house, I’ve grown to enjoy the nuggets of grown-up humor offered by kid toons like The Fairly Odd Parents, and Spongebob. But Avatar: The Last Airbender feels like an animated series for adults that just happens to be kid-friendly.

It’s no secret that I enjoy anime, but there’s more to love here than just the beautiful characters and effects. The storyline may be somewhat simple, but it’s also incredibly dark. A hundred-year war? Nations hunted to extinction?

This isn’t Rugrats, that’s for sure!
The first hour-long premier ran last week, but if you missed it, don’t let that stop you from following the adventures of Aang, Katara, and Sokka as they struggle to master the elements and save their war-torn world.

…and let the kids watch too!
